Where to Travel in 2025: An Epic Destination for Each Month

January: The Philippines
Escape dreary winter and visit the tropics instead! January in the Philippines is perfect: it’s both dry season and has the ideal warm, not-too-hot, temperatures. January is also the tail-end of peak tourism season, so visit closer to the end of the month to avoid some of the worst crowds. There are so many beautiful beaches in the Philippines – I’d recommend island hopping to experience as many of them as you can! I personally loved Coron, Palawan, El Nido, and Siquijor. Tip: rent a scooter or take a tricycle (a tuk-tuk) to get around the islands!

February: Bolivia
If you have visiting mirrored salt flats on your bucket list, then you need to visit Bolivia in February! In January and February, Bolivia receives enough heavy rainfall to fill up the salt flats in Uyuni, creating magical, mirror-like reflections of the sky. And in case that’s not enough to sway you – Bolivia has some of the most BEAUTIFUL and most UNDERRATED landscapes I’ve ever seen – so be sure to explore more than just Uyuni! Tip: for US citizens, a visa IS required and it’s a bit of a complex one to navigate, so be sure to be prepared in advance! Visit Travel.State.Gov for the most up-to-date information.

March: Egypt
And speaking of BUCKET list sights: you MUST visit the Pyramids in Egypt – try going in March! At this time of year, it is still shoulder season, so you’ll get to enjoy the stunning temples and sights of Egypt with fewer crowds (it can get REALLY packed in some of the popular temples, so this is really ideal!). In March, it will be pleasantly warm during the day and not extremely hot – allowing you to comfortably explore more of the ancient sights – and it is also refreshingly cool at night. Tip: That being said, Egypt is still quite warm in March so pack sunscreen and plan on visiting sights in the mornings or evenings for best temperatures.

April: Singapore
April is in the middle of the dry season in Singapore, making it the ideal time to visit this nature-inspired city. Singapore’s humidity is no joke, and the rain can be downright torrential, so it’s ideal to visit in dry season to enjoy sunshine and lower humidity. Downsides: expect higher prices and more crowding in the dry season versus the wet season (around September – February). Singapore is SO worth a visit though – not only do they have one of the most beautiful airports in the world, but their cuisine and diverse culture is UNMATCHED. Make sure you stay for longer than a layover and visit Singapore’s gardens, museums, and neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam. Tip: spend more than just a stopover here! Plan for a MINIMUM of 3 days (but I’d recommend more!).

May: Türkiye
From personal experience, May is the very BEST month to visit Türkiye; just ahead of the peak season from June to August (crowds are WILD in peak season!). Temperatures are warming up and it’s not crazy hot – however, nights can be quite cool, especially in the world-renowned Cappadocia, so bring some layers! Türkiye is full of epic sights from the beautiful mosques in Istanbul to the hot air balloons in Cappadocia, beaches in Fethiye, Roman ruins in Ephesus, and the thermal pools in Pamukkale. Tip: if you want to do a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia, book it at the START of your time there in case of weather cancellations – so you’ll have time to rebook just in case!

June: Iceland
Could there be a more perfect month to visit Iceland than June? I think not! June is the start of peak tourism season in Iceland – but it’s the most popular for a reason. You’ll enjoy warmer temperatures and get to stay out and explore as long as you like with the midnight sun. Many of the roads that are closed for winter will now be open for June, allowing you to visit all of the hiking trails and remote areas all around the country – it’s perfect for a road trip! Tip: book your trip WELL in advance; Iceland is a small country and as such the number of hotels, rental cars, vans, etc are extremely limited!

July: Namibia
I have been talking about Namibia NONSTOP since my road trip there – it is SUCH an underrated African country, full of the NICEST people around! July is smack-dab in the middle of dry season – which imo is the ONLY time you should really visit as the roads in Namibia are no joke, and you want them to be nice and dry! In July you’ll have epic wildlife sightings, pleasant temperatures (warm during the day and cool at night), and exceptionally low malaria risk (versus a higher chance in wet season). Tip: prepare for LONG drives on rocky gravel roads, so space out your trip destinations with plenty of time to get from point A to B. Bonus tip: knowing how to change a tire is a VERY valuable skill for road tripping here!

August: Ecuador
Do not sleep on mainland Ecuador! The Galapagos Islands are definitely also ideal to visit in August, but I think you should skip the high prices of the Galapagos and spend more money and time on the mainland! Ecuador has so much to explore and is truly an adventure traveler’s dream: from lush rainforests to the epic Avenue of Volcanoes, colorful local markets, and even access to the Amazon. The mainland of Ecuador is still quite affordable and in my opinion, extremely overrated. It definitely deserves a place on your trip planning list! Tip: rent a car to have the freedom to explore multiple destinations in Ecuador.

September: South Africa
September in South Africa falls during the dry winter season – an ideal time for the BEST conditions for safaris. With less vegetation in winter, you’ll get a more clear view of the incredible wildlife here. The weather is also great in Cape Town during this month, and you’ll also be missing the peak tourist season (November to March) – which means hello to lower prices! Keep an eye out for flight deals and book this trip asap! Tip: I’d recommend booking a safari tour in Kruger National Park, but you CAN actually self-drive here as well!

October: The United States
I have yet to find anywhere that has fall color like the United States. October is THE ideal month to visit the United States to chase fall color. And if you plan your timing right – you could chase color all month! Expect color to be peak early in the month (or even from the tail-end of September) in colder locations, such Colorado, Michigan, and New England (Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire have possibly the BEST fall color in all of the USA). Color peaks mid-month in states like Washington, Oregon, New York, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and in late October, peak color occurs in Tennessee, North Carolina, and other southern states. Tip: make absolutely sure to book your fall color trip AS early as humanly possible! People from all around the States and now the world flock to the East Coast and other areas of the US just to see the leaves turn.

November: New Zealand
November is my favorite time of year in New Zealand. Why? One word: lupines! November is spring in New Zealand, and you’ll get to enjoy mild temperatures (not too warm, and not too cold!), beautiful lupine blooms around several lakes, and fewer crowds than in the high season from December to February. It’s not quite shoulder season, but I do find prices tend to drop and availability opens up outside of the peak tourist season. I’d recommend picking either the north OR the south island and road tripping around whichever you choose for your first trip there, so you don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do it all! Tip: book any campervans and accommodation early, and remember they drive on the opposite side of the road than they do in the US!

December: Germany
If you want to lean into all of the magical parts of winter, visit Germany in December for the Christmas markets! Visiting the Christmas markets in Germany should be on everyone’s bucket list to experience at least once. It is so worth braving the colder temperatures for the sheer wonder of the markets and seeing every place decorated for Christmas. The lights, the Glühwein, the food – it is all pretty incredible. Only downside: you definitely will be facing some crowds – so try the markets at the START of the day! Tip: check all of the open times and dates of the markets you intend to visit, and know that pretty much all of them FINISH before December 24th – so don’t visit too late in the month!

Plan Your 2025 Trip
✈️ Flights: find cheap deals using Skyscanner – this is what I used to find cheap flights for all my world travel! I also love having cheap deals sent right to my inbox with Going.
🏠️ Accommodation: Easily compare prices, reviews, locations, and more with Booking.com – it’s how I personally find my budget-friendly accommodation! If you are a backpacker and looking to save even more, check out HostelWorld.
🚗 Transportation: In many of the locations in this post, it’s ideal to rent a car to get around more easily. I’d also recommend using the train in Europe and using 12Go in Asia for ferries, buses, taxis, and more.
📸 Tours: Explore the world with GetYourGuide – they have an incredible selection of tours all over the world.
📶 Connection: Always stay connected by using an eSIM – and for that I cannot recommend Airalo enough! You’ll have access to data WITHOUT having to spend a ton on your at-home plan, change your number, or buy a physical sim.
🗺️ Travel insurance: NEVER travel without insurance! Here’s why. I recommend World Nomads for adventure travel as it covers a lot of high-risk sports (like some of the adventures mentioned in this blog post!) and covers your gear too, or SafetyWing for longer trips as it’s less expensive for long-term and/or multi-country travel (and it’s especially great for digital nomads!).
