Where to Travel in 2026: Month by Month

January: Tulum, Mexico
Kick off the year where turquoise water meets ancient ruins. Tulum is pure tropical bliss – picture warm breezes, swaying palms, and kite surfers dancing across the Caribbean. January’s dry season means perfect beach days and cenote dives (trust me, the crystal-clear cenotes are unforgettable!).
Plus there are PLENTY of adventurous activities (and artsy shopping!) even if beach hangs aren’t your thing!
✨ Why go: Escape winter blues with sunshine and jungle adventures.
📸 Must do: Explore the Tulum Ruins overlooking the sea!

February: Petra, Jordan
History lovers, this one’s for you. Wandering Petra’s rosy sandstone facades in cooler February weather is peak Indian Jones vibes (!) but without the staggering heat that the Middle East has later in the year.
Carved temples and hidden trails create a travel experience you’ll truly never forget – one moment you’re in an ancient city, the next you’re atop a trail with sweeping desert panoramas. And I’m happy to report even as a solo traveler I felt SUPER safe in Jordan and the people are SO kind, it’s a MUST visit!
✨ Why go: Beat the heat while exploring UNESCO-worthy history.
📸 Must do: Candlelit concert at the Siq – unforgettable!

March: Rovaniemi, Finland
Move aside December and January, because my top travel secret is that March is ACTUALLY the BEST time for Finland. Why? Because it’s still cold enough to have winter-wonderland snow vibes, but clearer skies and the spring equinox means it’s not only less cold, but you’re also MUCH more likely to see the Northern Lights!!!
So if seeing the aurora is on your bucket list, do NOT skip Rovaniemi – it’s the official hometown of Santa Claus and in March the days are longer and the Northern Lights dance through the sky. Not to mention snowmobiling, reindeer sleigh rides, and cozy lounges with hot cocoa? Yes please!
✨ Why go: Snow + Northern Lights + Arctic adventure all in one trip!
📸 Must do: Stay at a glass igloo & watch the Northern Lights!

April: Cape Town, South Africa
If I could pick one destination I’d visit in Africa over and over again that is EASILY one of the best places to travel in 2026, it would be Cape Town. Because what do you mean there are stunning beaches with the MOST dramatic mountain backdrop?! Not to mention the vibrant culture and unique fusion food scene – it’s such a vibe!
And tip: April is actually autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, which means mild weather, fewer crowds (always a bonus ngl), and perfect for hiking Table Mountain or sipping wine in nearby vineyards. You can even get your safari on by heading to Kruger National Park after Cape Town, OR even have a game drive AND wine tasting tour in Cape Town itself (!).
✨ Why go: Warm days and beautiful shoulder-season vibes.
📸 Must do: Cable car up Table Mountain for sunset!

May: San Juan, Puerto Rico
May is when San Juan comes ALIVE with Caribbean colors, music, and delicious food. This island blends history and beach days beautifully. Wander Old San Juan’s pastel streets, explore rainforests inland, and eat your way through the local cuisine (do NOT skip a food tour here!). Make sure to save some energy for the vibrant nightlife and dance scene too!
May is also the PERFECT time for warm & sunny but not hot (or rainy!) weather in San Juan, and it’s juuuust before the peak summer crowds. Hot tip for US citizens: since Puerto Rico is officially a U.S. territory, you don’t need a passport to visit!
✨ Why go: Culture, beaches, joie de vivre all in one.
📸 Must do: Take a night-time tour to kayak in a bioluminescent bay!

June: Juneau, Alaska, USA
Summer in Alaska means endless daylight and jaw-dropping wilderness and wildlife – so do NOT sleep on Juneau! Juneau is wild beauty at its best – glaciers, whales, hiking trails, and rivers perfect for kayaking. June also a great month for fishing and scenic flights over icy blue glaciers.
And if you want even more adventure (you know, since you’re ALREADY flying ALL the way out to Alaska anyway) – I would highly recommend adding in a visit to Sitka as well – it’s just a short hop flight away and has SUCH cute small town vibes!
✨ Why go: STUNNING nature and tons of wildlife viewing!
📸 Must do: Whale watching tour!

July: Dublin, Ireland
There’s a reason Dublin is on every traveler’s wishlist and summer is an absolute DREAM in Ireland! Cool summer weather, lively streets filled with music, and Irish charm around every corner will make you fall in love with this iconic city. July’s festivals, historic pubs, and scenic day trips make it one of the best places to travel in 2026 for culture and late-night fun.
Tip: the only biggest thing to keep in mind is that July is definitively peak tourist season so make sure you book your tours and activities in advance!
✨ Why go: Lively summer energy, perfect weather, and live music around every corner!
📸 Must do: Do the Guinness Storehouse Experience (yes it’s touristy, but it will give you such a good appreciation for Guinness – do it at the start of your trip!)

August: Kauai, Hawaii, USA
If paradise had a name, it would probably be Kauai. Of all the Hawaiian islands, Kauai is my personal favorite because it has the most jaw-dropping natural beauty – from epic hikes, to towering green mountains, the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, and one of the most stunning coastlines I’ve ever seen!
August in Kauai is warm without being stormy, which means it’s perfect for snorkeling, hiking dramatic cliffs, and chasing waterfalls. Kauai’s lush jungles and seaside sunsets make every day feel like postcard magic. You’ll never want to leave!
Tip: let’s help keep Hawaii beautiful & protected for locals & visitors alike – so pack reef-safe sunscreen, try local food and shop local, and consider joining a beach cleanup or another community effort to help give back to this incredible island (mahalo!).
✨ Why go: A tropical escape with stunning nature views & epic hiking.
📸 Must do: Na Pali doors-off helicopter ride!

September: Reykjavik, Iceland
There’s a reason why Iceland is one of the best places to travel in 2026 (and routinely makes the top travel list every year!). The sheer natural beauty in Iceland is staggering, and Reykjavik is the perfect adventure base for the Golden Circle and the South Coast: waterfalls, lava fields, and dramatic Icelandic scenery.
September in Iceland offers crisp air, fewer crowds, and a chance to start seeing the Northern Lights again (if you’re lucky!). Reykjavik has SO much to do that I feel like many tourists overlook because they’re rushing out to do a road trip (it’s a small but mighty town) – so make sure you don’t miss the incredible food, shopping, quirky museums, and gorgeous geothermal lagoons (and then afterward YES, you can rush out to do the Golden Circle too!).
✨ Why go: Fewer crowds but with all the same stunning landscapes as summer!
📸 Must do: Reykjavik food tour + relaxing in the Blue Lagoon.

October: New England, USA (Fall Color!)
Every year I block out the ENTIRE month of October to stay in the USA because the fall color here is the BEST in the world (you can fight me on this!). And if you want to see the BEST of the best, make sure you take a road trip through New England for peak fall foliage! New England includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island (although I’d so recommend adding upstate New York onto your trip too!).
The vibes: cozy sweaters, apple cider donuts, cutesy Gilmore Girls aesthetic towns, and fiery autumn leaves. New England in October is truly autumn adventure perfection – from maple syrup tasting in Vermont to fall foliage hikes in New Hampshire to coastal drives in Maine – road trips don’t get better than this!
✨ Why go: Peak fall foliage and classic USA road trip vibes!
📸 Must do: Drive the Kancamagus Highway!

November: Sedona, Arizona, USA
Red rocks, clear skies, healing vortex energy, epic hikes, and golden desert light – Sedona is one of the most beautiful places in the USA and it holds a special place in my heart. The only downside – everyone else knows how amazing it is too! So visit Sedona in November, because it’s MUCH quieter and less crowded. It’s still stunning, and perfect for hiking and relaxation as the temperatures are not as high as summer, and November is past the rainy season too.
Make sure you head out on some hikes but also save some time for relaxation – the spa and yoga scene here feels SO healing, and afterward you can check out any of Sedona’s restaurants – I truly think the food here is some of the BEST in the U.S. too!
✨ Why go: Healing desert energy + spectacular vistas.
📸 Must do: Sunset at Airport Mesa!

December: Budapest, Hungary (Christmas Markets!)
European Christmas markets on your bucket list? I got you! Wrap up this perfect travel year with old-world charm and twinkling lights in Budapest, Hungary. Budapest’s Christmas markets are some of Europe’s coziest without the insane crowds of other winter markets (looking at you, Germany, Vienna, and Prague!). Imagine sipping on mulled wine while shopping for handcrafted gifts, and taking in breathtaking castle views overlooking the Danube. Budapest has all of the old-world European charm with some wonderfully quirky new trends (do NOT miss out on a “Ruin Bar”!).
And the perfect way to warm up after your cold adventures is by soaking in one of Budapest’s many thermal pools – I tried out six on my 3-week adventure in 2025 and LOVED every one of them! Budapest also has one of the BEST cafe scenes I’ve ever experienced – don’t miss out on starting your day with some coffee and pastries (there are SO many cafes you could try a new one each day and NEVER run out of them!).
✨ Why go: Magical Christmas markets + rich history.
📸 Must do: Thermal baths after a day of wandering!
There you have it: 12 dreamy adventures, one for every month of the year timed out to give you the most unforgettable trip possible. The best places to travel in 2026 span the globe and are perfect for your bucket list (but let’s make that a reality this year, right?!).
