Drone VIDEOGRAPHY tips 🚁👇️ (SAV Drone VIDEOGRAPHY tips 🚁👇️

(SAVE) this guide to improve your drone videos!

I’m officially obsessed with flying my @djiglobal Mini Pro 3 - especially when it came to fall colors! But I wasn’t always so keen on flying - I used to be SO ANXIOUS. Practice, instruction from @christinelozada, and just calling every flight a success (even if the photos/videos don’t turn out!) have really helped me get the drone out more.

Here are some tips to help you ELEVATE your drone videography as well:

📽️ PRACTICE cinematic moves before taking it out on location
📽️ Watch YouTube videos to research new angles & moves
📽️ Start with auto mode so you can focus on flying first and worry about video second when you feel more comfortable

📽️ When you feel more confident, switch to Pro mode to have full control of the shot
📽️ When you get in the air, turn your drone 360° to see what’s around you - and make sure you set your RTH altitude and/or flying altitude higher than any obstacles

📽️ Utilize features such as ActiveTrack to have your drone follow you!
📽️ Get at least one top-down shot - this is what makes drone videography so unique! (Shoot pointed straight down)
📽️ Play with distance, height, and gimbal camera angle

📽️ Aaaaand make sure your batteries are all charged up before you go and you’ve got a fresh memory card!

Do you have a drone? Does this make you want one?? Comment below with any other questions you have about drone videography! 👇️

Have you ever been on a trail this crowded?!

This was hands down the worst crowding I’ve ever seen on a trail. It was such a conflicting feeling because on one hand, it was obviously not a very enjoyable experience, but on the other, I was still glad to be able to see the view at the end.

I do firmly believe everyone deserves to be able to see and experience nature, and I’m so happy more people want to be outside.

That being said, this is absolutely a case of overtourism that is detrimental - people moving off trail to avoid the crowd (which will cause erosion and trail degradation), people falling and knocking others over because they’re unprepared for the reality of the hike, and human waste & garbage are sure to be littering the trail.

I also acknowledge that as someone who shares the outdoors on social media, I am actively part of the social media problem. I try to focus on sharing locations that can withstand heavier tourism and I aim to educate both outdoor skills & preparedness along with leave no trace principles - but with the viral nature of posts/Reels these days, does anyone actually read captions or pay attention to disclaimers? I would love your take on what is the best way to help educate & share, and I encourage you to think about how you share as well.

For this particular trail, I think a reservation system is necessary at this point (or another solution) - which obviously makes it more difficult to be spontaneous or chase fall color more accurately - BUT it does help protect the trail for future visitors and allow everyone to experience nature in a SAFER, more enjoyable way.

I have experienced this kind of reservation system both in Yosemite and on another fall hike in New York, and while it required more planning, I 100% would stand by it as it made the entire experience soo much nicer for everyone.

What are your thoughts on this? (please be kind to others as you discuss!)
