Tulum is quickly growing in popularity and it is a veritable hotspot for adventure travel – so here are the 7 BEST Tulum tours to help you have an unforgettable trip to Mexico!

Tulum is rapidly becoming one of the most popular destinations in Mexico, and while it is already known for being a yoga and art hub, I think it is undeniably also one of the BEST places for adventure travel. Full of cenotes, Mayan ruins, delicious Mexican cuisine, and located right on the ocean, Tulum has a little adventure for everyone.

I explored Tulum as part of my year-long solo world trip and I tried quite a few tours during my multi-week stay – here I’m sharing what I found to be the BEST Tulum tours that I think EVERY adventure-traveler should experience at least once!

If you do no other tour in Tulum, make sure to at least head over to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World. While Tulum is in the state of Quintana Roo and Chichen Itza is in the Mexican state of Yucatan, trust me, the drive is WELL worth it. 

This tour (which I personally did on my world trip!) combines your visit to Chichen Itza with a cenote swim – you’ll SO want this after a hot morning in the Mexico sun – and finishes up with lunch in Valladolid, which is one of the cutest towns in all of Mexico.

Cenotes are the BEST part about visiting Tulum – they are a unique geological feature of the area. Cenotes are underground chambers or caves which contain permanent water – as the result of a sinkhole or natural pit formation. Meaning: one of the most UNIQUE swimming, diving, and/or snorkeling experiences you will EVER have!

I recommend this tour, where you bike to up to 3 different cenotes – it’s the perfect way to combine even more adventure and activity into one day and maximize how many cenotes you can see as well.

Tulum Ruins are Mayan ruins located RIGHT on the ocean and to me, they totally give Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. Visiting them is a great way to learn more about Mayan culture, and on this tour, you can not only see the Tulum Ruins, but also Coba, another famous Mayan site, and then wrap up the day by SWIMMING WITH TURTLES (!)

Swimming in a cenote is one thing, but diving down to the depths of one is a bucket-list experience that few people will ever do in their lifetimes. This unforgettable tour takes you on a top 10 dive in the world and a dive where you will cross a sulfur cloud (INSANITY, I love it!).

Not scuba certified? Try this snorkel tour instead at my personal FAVORITE swimming hole, Kaan Luum Lagoon, and you’ll also get a chance to explore two of the world’s largest reefs.

If all this adventure travel is tiring you out and you need a relax day of luxury, might I recommend this luxury half-day sailing experience. There’s an open bar so you can fully get your relax on, OR you can lean into the adventure and paddle board, swim, and snorkel in crystal clear waters.
